As of today Officers assigned to the case continue to investigate the alleged assault. EPD continues to receive responses to the initial Community Alert that was issued on April 2nd.
EPD received a few reports that there may be someone camping or living in the State Forest. As a result a request was placed to the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing for assistance with checking the Forest. On Sunday 4/5/2015 at approximately 12 noon the MSP Air Wing conducted a search per our request. After approximately one hour Police units on the ground were advised that nothing out of the ordinary was observed from overhead.
The air search was delayed by two days due to poor weather and high winds. EPD would like to thank the MSP Air Wing for their assistance.
Late in the day on Sunday 4/5/2015 EPD received a report from a bicyclist who had seen what appeared to be a campsite in the Forest. Officers investigated and found a hammock strung up between two trees with a tarp overhead. Officers then located and identified the individual who had set up the hammock. He did not resemble the description given by the victim at all and was ruled out as a potential suspect for a number of other reasons as well.
EPD will continue to investigate and keep the community informed as much as possible without compromising the integrity of the investigation.
