The Found Property Officer is responsible for securing all found property that is turned into the Edgartown Police Department. Their duties include logging the property, cross-referencing the found item with reported lost and stolen property, contacting other police agencies in surrounding towns to ensure that the found item was not reported lost or stolen in their area and conducting investigations (when necessary) on the return of the property to its rightful owner.
If the property is not claimed by the rightful owner or finder after 1 year, the Property Officer will submit the item(s) into the police auction.
