Marine Division
The Edgartown Police and Edgartown Fire Department have come together to create a multi-purpose Marine Unit. Our vessel is a 25’ Safeboat that is equipped with a fire suppression system and state of art electronics including, a Thermal Imaging camera.
During the summer season, 267 maintains a schedule on the water, Thursday- Sunday, 0800-1800 hrs. The staffing during these hours consists of a Paramedic and a Police Officer. An additional Police Officer will be on board during peak boating times and when pre-planned maritime events arise.
Crew members receive a minimum training of the “NASBLA” Basic Crew Course and others have attended advanced training to be a Vessel Commander at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Marine Division. These trainings have been made possible by grant funding provided by the Department of Homeland Security (Port Security Grants).
In June of 2016, the Mass Environmental Police trained and certified Officers in the area of Boating under the influence. Officers and Medics also received in house training on water survival and water rescue techniques.
It is the mission of 267 and its crew members to assist the maritime community by enforcing laws within the Edgartown waters and to provide assistance to our neighboring communities and the USCG.
