Patrol officers are the front line of the department- they create and maintain the feeling of security in the community and reduce the opportunity for the commission of crime through standard patrols and community outreach. Their duties are to promote civil order while enforcing local, state and federal laws. They maintain constant contact with the general public, public officials and agencies.
Certain patrol officers may carry out special duties assigned to them specifically by the Chief- such as working with the Edgartown Council on aging, CONNECT to end violence, the Youth Task Force, Children’s Cove, the Martha’s Vineyard Drug Task Force and the Edgartown Elementary School.
